Complementary Delight

Hello my beloved drinkers.   Today I decided to also play with the colors of the cocktail, to create for you an aperitif:  the  “Complementary Delight”

The use of complementary colors makes it pleasant to the eye, while it’s ingredients makes it light and refreshing.

As you know I usually try to think out of the box but some cocktails have guidelines we have to follow, especially aperitifs.  It can’t be too strong, nor too sweet or contain any strong flavored ingredients.  An aperitif is supposed to be light, refreshing and leave the palate clean for the meal and not leave your guest intoxicated.

No cooking, that’s already a good start.
You will need:

  • Honeydew and cantaloupe melons
  • Aloe-vera drink ( I am using Natural Garden)
  • Ruby red grapefruit juice
  • Lemon juice ( fresh)
  • Campari
  • Midori
  • Sparkling water ( I am using San Pellegrino )

To make the cocktail
First place 0.75 oz. of Midori into a rocks glass

Then in a shaker add 2 half inch cubes from each type of melon (4 in total),
Muddle and add:

  • 1 oz. Aloe-Vera drink
  • 0.5 oz. ruby red grapefruit juice
  • 0.75 oz. lemon juice
  • 1.25 oz. Campari

Add ice and shake

Then fill the glass with the Midori with fresh ice and gently double strain the cocktail to the glass,
Top with sparkling water,
Enjoy

While the cocktail looks great at the serving point I do recommend to stir a little before you drink it to avoid getting watery flavor at first and too sweet at the end, the stirring will balance it.
